Intel Investors - ANOTHER Pro-Intel Press Release from SUN !!
I wouldn't be surprised if SUN releases an ITanium/IA-64 Solaris announcement in the next month or two - seems as they are making an effort to cozy up to Intel.
Maybe their UltraSparc III has been delayed another 2 years !!!

Free Solaris(SM) Binary License Program Greatly Exceeding Sun's Expectations Number of Intel Platform Licenses Through First Half of 2000 Already Seven Times Number For All of 1999. Half Are New Users
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW - news) today announced that registrants who have signed up for the Free Solaris(SM) Binary License Program within its first 90 days of availability have indicated that they plan to install Sun's operating environment on 260,000 systems. In addition, nearly 65% of the planned installations will take advantage of the no-cost licenses for the Intel Platform Edition of the Solaris Operating Environment. Further, over half of the systems are for users new to the Sun's operating system.
The number of commercial licenses for the Intel edition, achieved in the first half of 2000, represents a seven-fold increase over the number generated for all of 1999. This dramatic growth in licensees for the Intel Platform Edition of the Solaris Operating Environment is a result of the robust applications, particularly those from Apache and Oracle, that run on the environment combined with the need for a reliable, scalable operating system.
``Our no-fee licensing model opens the door to end user customers that want to take advantage of the reliability, manageability and scalability of the Solaris Operating Environment and customer response has vastly exceeded our expectations,'' said Andy Ingram, Sun's vice president of marketing for Solaris Software. ``Once the Solaris Operating Environment is in the users' hands, they quickly realize they are working with the finest dot-com operating environment available and can appreciate the value and performance they receive. It's exciting to see users of Intel-based machines adopting the Solaris Operating Environment at their current rate.''
