You don't think that Juan's decisions might be influenced by Castro's goons holding guns on Juan's family back in Cuba? Of course not. Why, silly me! Castro's brutal treatment of anyone who disagrees with him, has nothing to do with Juan Miquel's actions and total devotion to Castro.

I have never read anything that indicates that Juan Miguel wanted to emigrate, now or ever. Any suggestion of that came from the Miami relatives, and was apparently wishful thinking. The fact that Castro has held people hostage to ensure their relatives return doesn't mean that he was doing it now. I've also read that the grandparents applied for visas to visit Elian and Juan Miguel in Maryland, but were turned down by the US government. (Of course, you will say that they did that under orders from Fidel...)

<< Cubans on either side of the strait seem to have a great deal of pride, love of country, and an authoritarian streak. >>

Does that include the tens of thousands who have died trying to flee Cuba, or the many who have been shot by Castro's infamous firing squads, without a fair or public trial?

Bit of a non sequitur, this....what has one to do with the other??
