intc + 3 9/16 amd - 2 7/16
Anybody have any idea why amd is down now.
Of course, Intel gave most of that back. Intel has been selling off late in the day all week, and the SOXX has been weak. On the AMAT thread, I've seen some posts saying some industry watchers think the chip industry may be getting close to peaking in the current cycle. Sounds absurd with Intel and AMD sold out, flash impossible, etc. I think some of the industry watchers saw the big fab spending being done by Intel, TSMC and others, and they think that heralds the top, to be followed by oversupply and the inevitable (to them) crash. They then start selling early, to avoid the rush. So, the AMAT thread is the one on SI that watches this stuff like a hawk. Pays to own some AMAT just to have an excuse to go there. Great stock also (while the cycle is good). My opinion, based on hearing Barrett, Corrigan of LSI and Morgan of AMAT, some of them live at s-holders meetings, is that we are nowhere near any end of the good half of the cycle. Some of the industry CEOs even think the next down may be nowhere near as bad as previous. Something like a soft landing for semis! We need Danny Boy to come out again and say the cycle is still running strong, I guess.
As for AMD, they've had a tremendous run. Do their holders think it will go up forever?
