I'm old and crusty, been investing since I was 19, but was looking at my dads WSJ before that, so I been around. I spend my time looking for trends. If you are watching what I'm investing in, I tend to go with hardware companies, shovel makers if you will, since that is what I'm comfortable with because of my background in engineering. Sometimes it's by a news story, or mag. article. sometimes it's by looking through charts, sometimes it's from fellow posters, that is where I got PEB from. VRSN, (which I will re-enter Thrus. maybe), was on the bottom my screen as I was making orders online. I like to find companies that will change how we work, live and play, that are easily understood by the masses. I'm having a hard time finding stocks that fit that this year that haven't already been discovered (SGMO no one knows about this one <gg>), we are in a transition year with bio, wireless and the net, which are the largest areas I can think of that fit my line in bold above, so I have been going with ones that have sold off and are recovering. I like to buy stocks that will have news that will excite investors, since news rules, be it fundamentals like beating est., or new and exciting product or service offerings, design wins, or big contracts wins, or expanding of operations. So in sum, the name of the game is to find stocks that have a expanding story, so the stock valuation will expand with it.
