Am I off my nut, or isn't SK on record as rolling out 1x later this year??

Why would they give up this time to market advantage to wait an indefinate period for wCDMA, and deal with the 20-30 companies claiming IP?? CDMA royalties will without doubt have lower cumulative royalties than either GSM or wCDMA...

SK Telecom will definitely roll-out 1xrtt in their current spectrum. The debate in Korea centers around what standard will be rolled out in the new spectrum (2000MHz) that will be auctioned off later this year.

I dont think that in the case of SK Telecom that they are really swayed by royalties....after-all, as an operator, they dont pay the royalties. If Ericsson/Nokia can convince them the benefits of a W-CDMA system are greater than CDMA2000 (increased roaming, handset selection) then their is a chance that W-CDMA will be selected. The wild card in this is NTT Docomo....they were talking about taking a stake in SK Telecom, but I dont believe that has happened yet.

Same type of debate as in Japan....
