Growth slowdown rumor is fake

Ericsson reaffirms its forecasts for industry growth

THURSDAY, JUNE 29, 2000 9:21:00 AM EST
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jun 29, 2000 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- Ericsson, the world's No. 3 mobile phone maker, reassured investors Thursday that its industry growth forecasts would stand and it had no plans to correct forward-looking statements from last quarter.

The company issued a brief statement reaffirming its forecasts for fast growth in the wireless industry after its shares fell on comments by chief executive Kurt Hellstroem that the high cost of third-generation mobile licenses may stunt the industry's growth in Europe.

"In principle I had the opinion that the auction of mobile licenses was quite sound, but the costs proved too high," Hellstroem said in an interview with the business daily Dagens Industri.
