Banc of America Downgrades Cytyc to Buy

NEW YORK, Jun. 29 (Standard & Poor's) - Banc of America Securities downgraded Cytyc Corp (CYTC) 48 13/16 -8 1/16) shares to buy from strong buy today.

Analyst Kurt Kruger said that part of his thesis on the maker of the new pap spear has been that ThinPrep penetration would at some point reach a "tipping point", and at that time penetration would begin to accelerate beyond the linear progression he had modeled. He said that his checks suggest that Cytyc can achieve penetration targets, but that the company "will have its work cut out for it." Though the timing of his action could be read as a call on the 2Q, this is not the case, he said.

However, Kruger still supports the stock, and recognizes that future catalysts that could move stock exist. At current levels, he believes the shares are appropriately priced. He kept his 12-month target at $55, and told S&P Marketscope that he would be an aggressive buyer in low $40s.
