By your line of reasoning; Dell, Gateway, Compaq, HP, IBM, etc are all incompetent because they ship Windows based computers that crash once in a while

That's one way of putting it. Another would be to say that those vendors have found the sweet spot where most customers will trade off stability against ease of use against features against price. That is why preloaded computers come with all that crap that hogs memory and makes your system unstable but looks cute (you know, little gauges in the system tray and "wizards" and the like). You may remember Compaq got in some trouble last year because they put so much crap on their systems that they ran out of memory when they started up. That was incompetent.
