NIhil,

So far for CW, everything you say is true. ANd you helped a lot two years ago when we started this search for the right fit. While Rice is not MIT, it attracts some of the best names in certain fields. He was so lucky to get this summer job with the Artificial Intelligence prof, who is tops in the world in this field. He's meeting and talking with all kinds of people, and he's learning so much. I think going back to "classes" will be a real down for him. He hated the basic courses.

Oh and yes- it was the first time he ever met people who were a LOT smarter than he. REAL geniuses- as he put it. It was humbling and yet good, because he learned that he brought certain abilities to the table and they could work together to do amazing things.

He has made plenty of time for extra activities too-- I think Rice is pretty good about encouraging that. All in all, we;re thrilled with the results so far.

But now talk to me about a different type of child- the loner- dreamer- NOT driven except about his own personal interests, not the 99th%-- not even the 90th. How do you help him find the right fit?
