No communist insurrection has ever toppled a democratic government. Dictators are much easier.

Lenin toppled the Karinski(sp?) republic. Many others were threatened and might have fell without US support. The russians crushed democratic uprising in Hungery and Checkoslovakia, and coerced other countries like Finland.

People who credit Reagan with the fall of the Soviet Union, or who credit any politician for our current prosperity, have far too much faith in politics and far to little awareness of economics.

Jimmy Carter had one way, and Reagan had another. Historians can decide which was better. I'm prepared to give Clinton credit for the current economic conditions if only he could explain in a cogent manner what he did specifically.

Reagan's theme was self reliance and initiative (i.e. less government intrusion). His view was and is still reflected in our current polices on busines and welfare. You don't need to be an Einstein to see what works and what doesn't.

Good night...

Neal
