I think that the worst case scenario, however unlikely, could be truly catastrophic. Intel could be barred from selling Pentiums of all types, have to pay billions in damages and possibly have to recall all outstanding chips. Again, this is VERY unlikely, it's absolute worst case: Intel infringed on multiple material patents, it is judged to have been willful, DEC gets triple damages and is unable to reach a license agreement with Intel.

Again, look at the Kodak vs. Polaroid infringement a few years ago. Kodak had to get out of the business, stop selling instant camera film, pay a huge penalty to Polaroid and recall all of the cameras. However I don't think that this situation is in that class.
