After using Velocity for a coupla days now...

I would have to completely agree with you. It is by far the slowest program EVER to load on my PowerBook. I'm not sure what the total resource utilization is, but it does not appear to be as much of a hog on a Mac as on a PC. For example, 20 active symbols on a watch list consumed 25 MB of RAM allowing me to run Communicator, Canvas, PhotoShop, Word (and the very hungry OS 9.0.4) along side Velocity.

Regardless, the Marimba is slow and the entire program is sticky and cumbersome. My complaints have less to do with speed and resources - although they certainly could be improved - and more focused on the clumsy design and convoluted command structure.
