From my research, Stachybotris has to be confirmed by testing a sample of it in a lab. If you have mold in your house, take some samples to a lab in a glad zip lock bag and have it tested. Just because it's black doesn't mean it's toxic mold.

Stachybotris is not the only toxic mold. There are about 10 different kinds.
If it is toxic mold, it doesn't mean that it will produce toxins.

Stachybotris when growing is slimy. However appearance will change when dry. It needs a lot of constant moisture to grow.

There is no use testing the air unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

I was also advised that if it's present, it should be removed as it is a potential health risk.

That's what I found out from my research. Please don't take this as 100% fact. Please consult with your local Health Protection Branch.
