You read too much marketing material, Drew. GPRS is a complex system, but once installed it forms most of the core WCDMA. Radio side needs to be upgraded obviously, although at least some time ago Ericsson was into basestations with GSM, GPRS and WCDMAn capabilities.

There is no upgrade path for GSM operators to CDMA2000. One could be designed I guess, but which operator would be interested in migrating into a giant Betamax system. Quite the opposite, think what is happening in Japan, Korea and recently in Brazil.
