It's interesting to compare Dell's 1GHZ offering with Gateway's: Gateway is $2299 Dell is $3299 Gateway can be configured pretty much any way you want (a base machine or a top of the line killer) Dell will only let you add components - so that unless you're willing to pay $3,000+ you can't get a 1GHZ machine from Dell. If both machines are configured identically, the price diffence drops to about $400 - pretty much the amount extra you pay for Rambus memory. The big difference is that Gateway seems to be trying to sell 1GHZ machines, while Dell seems to be using its few 1GHZ processors to force their customers to buy useless and expensive rambus that those customers most likely don't want.
