I happened upon that convent in Notre Dame when I was a struggling writer living on the West Bank. I asked Sister Sookie about the study. At first she was reluctant to speak. But after a meal of corned-beef and swiss on rye...washed down by a magnificent Bordeaux..she revealed what it was the sisters abstained from when I promised that I would not reveal the "secret" for 10 years. Well...the ten years was up last night...and I can now share Sister Sookie's secret; "Avoid French-fries, Big Mac's, Nicholas Cage movies...and it won't hurt to stop being a tortured Red Sox fan."
