[C6X chip confusion]

J --

Okay, time to clear the record. Contrary to what TI's media director told me --- and what the USRX and TI guys said on the conference call --- USRX does not have a chip in production quality or quantity at this time. It's not possible. They most likely have sample DSPs, the same as Amati. The final chip will be in production by the end of the year. Once you have a basic DSP, there's alot that goes onto it to make it work -- it's an enormous task, even for experienced engineers like Amati's. As for putting it onto software, if USR succeeds, they will have to sacrifice alot in quality.

I've listened to the conference call a second time and think we all misconstrued the comment about having the C6X available now. Yes, USRX has it, but not in anything near its final form. Adding Marcia Pickett's comments to what was said on the call reinforced the misconception.

The news has probably spread around the globe by now. :/

In summary, I think after listening to a high-powered conference call such as this we tend to forget that these companies are announcing *projected* products. They're talking about a hybrid solution that's still on the drawing board. Speaking for myself, I felt a great heaviness after hanging up and not until I stood back and thought about it did I realize what a vast difference there is between USRX's promised goods and what Amati's shipping right now --- to say nothing of what will be shipped later this year.

I guess it all goes to show how much a powerful public relations - marketing team can accomplish.

I'm more anxious than ever to visit the Microsoft trials and find out how our products are being received in the real world.

Cheers!

Pat
