Carl,

Loved your IBM post. In fact, it made me want to go to the IBM site and see what they're up to with DDR.

I looked first at the Intellistation M Pro site (http://commerce.www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/CategoryDisplay?cgmenbr=1&cntrfnbr=1&cgnbr=IntelliStation+M+Pro+with+Pentium+III+processors&cntry=840&lang=en_US). Can't find any DDR, but 24 of the 29 configurations they list (80ish%) use RDRAM. The rest use SDRAM.

So then I went to the Intellistation Z Pro (with Xeon) site (http://commerce.www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/CategoryDisplay?cgmenbr=1&cntrfnbr=1&cgnbr=IntelliStation+Z+Pro+with+Pentium+III+Xeon+processors&cntry=840&lang=en_US). Still no DDR, but 14 of the 18 configurations (75ish%) use RDRAM. The rest use SDRAM.

Okay, on to the Intellistation E Pro site (http://commerce.www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/CategoryDisplay?cgmenbr=1&cntrfnbr=1&cgnbr=IntelliStation+E+Pro+with+Pentium+III+processors&cntry=840&lang=en_US). Oops, no DDR, but 15 of the 19 configurations (75ish%) use RDRAM. The rest use SDRAM.

On to the RS/6000 (http://www.rs6000.ibm.com/hardware/workstations/44p_270_specs.html). I can't find anything on the site that says what type of memory it is, but it uses the POWER3-II processor, so we'll assume it isn't RDRAM. But it's not DDR, either, I'd be willing to bet.

On to the desktops...

Next, we have the PC 300PL line (http://commerce.www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/CategoryDisplay?cgmenbr=1&cntrfnbr=1&cgnbr=PC+300PL+(with+Pentium+III+processors)&cntry=840&lang=en_US) where 13 of 38 configurations (33ish%) are RDRAM.

Finally, we have the P300 and P300GL systems. Those are all low-cost machines so, as expected, they are all SDRAM-based.

Still no DDR systems. Press releases are nice, but you don't make any money off them.

As for the Microelectronics side of the house, their main memory page (http://www.chips.ibm.com/products/memory/) has links to a couple DDR data sheets as well as the RDRAM data sheets.

Your post mentioned the DDR Registered DIMM memory Enablement website. I couldn't find anything like that, though I found a PC133 Memory Enablement page. Could you post the link, please.

Dave
