Re DT taking over Sprint. DOJ sandbags WCOM and lets DT get the prize because of long distance competition worries. Profits are siphoned out of the US economy. Meantime, FCC starts approving entry of Baby Bells into long distance, which would more than offset any loss of competition from the merger of WCOM and FON. In the mean mean time Long Distance prices are approaching zero. 2 cents a minute from FON if you are willing to buy $20 worth a month.

I can't wait until these DOJ bozos are sent packing. Of course EU opposition to WCOM/FON had nothing to do with opening the door for the Europeans buy in. Right??

Besides, now that QWST deal with USW has closed, DT could come in and pick that one up on the cheap if the FON WCOM was allowed to go through.

In spite of the benefits which would accrue to US, I see little happening in the US Govt to support QCOM and GSTRF.

At a minimum FEMA ought to be outfitting all its FEMA offices with GSTRF phones and DOD should be placing them on every aircraft and Navy life boat. Government should pay GSTRF a subsidy to insure availability and viability of GSTRF as a national asset for DOD and emergency use -since minutes are not consumed routinely in most of these applications. (They did this for the National Reserve Aircraft Fleet) Would think that with the Schwartz/Loral connection to his Democrat buddies, this could be arranged. Maybe afraid of political fall out since Loral already given a pass on satellite tech transfer to PR of China.
