CDMA2000 technology service ready for launch in 2001

According to Samsung Electronics yesterday,
a leading Korean telecom manufacturer, it would
be possible to send data at 15Mbps using the
recently developed cdma2000 1x EV technology.
The company predicts that the service could be
launched in the latter half of next year.

At 1.25MHz channel, cdma2000 1x EV will
support data transmission at 5.2 Mbps and at
5MHz, the speed could be boosted up to
15Mbps, the company claimed.

Another CDMA technology, 1x MC
(multi-carrier) that supports data transmission at
144kbps, is planned for rollout in October by SK
Telecom, the world-pioneer in CDMA network
service. This puts Korean companies about three
months ahead of the rest of the world in the
development and deployment of 1X MC
network, according to industry insiders.

by utilizing cdma2000 (code division multiple
access 2000) technology, Korean operators may
be able to launch third-generation mobile
telecom services as early as the second half of
next year.
