I agree, Thomas, but I still don't understand what was said that is causing the furor. Did he use some racial epithets? Maybe the comments are so bad that the regular media can't print/broadcast them, but from what I've heard, he only expressed the opinion that he preferred not to associate with some sorts of people. That's why I'm sure I must not have heard the whole story -- we all prefer some types of people over others.

I'm reminded of the story a year or two ago about a guy in D.C. that lost his job for using the word "niggardly." And another (in NY, I think) that created an uproar for saying that someone on the phone "sounded like an African-American."

Surely our society can't be this stupid and in such denial of the obvious. Can we?
