Thanks for you kind words, Justa. This is what I find objectionable about your moderated thread:
"In a moderated subject, the member who created the subject can exclude any other member from posting messages to that subject. The member who started the subject has control over who is excluded from posting."
Sorry, but this just doesn't feel right. Which "problem" posts or posters over the past few weeks would you have rejected? Doesn't the "Ignore" tool allow each of us the same freedom to reject posters based on our own personal preferences, which may in highly unusual circumstances differ from your preferences? Doesn't this accomplish the same end, but with each us deciding for ourselves, who if anyone we would prefer not to hear from? In the moderated format you are substituting your judgement for ours, which as founder of the thread is your perogative, but which taints every post you chose to accept.
I already suspected you had mixed feelings about this because I have e-known you for a long time and you have consistantly demonstrated a caring passion for this cyber exercise, this SI experience, and have worked really hard to make it worthwhile for all of us. I appreciate it as much as anyone, despite my excesses on occasion.
There are those on both sides of this issue with "axes to grind." Most of us can figure out for ourselves the worthwhile from the worthless, the angry rantings from the meritorious new ideas and the insipid from the challenging. I'm not ready to give up that judgment to you or anyone else, not yet anyway.
So I will view your new thread as a read-only thread for now and respond as appropriate here, in honor of Truman, who I hope would be proud. No hard feelings here either...you're a good man, Justa, an excellent analyst and writer, and above all, an independant thinker. That is why in the end, I suspect you will come to call this thread, Truman's thread, your sole SI home.
