I've considered it and rejected it. And you've outlined some of the reasons why. What's interesting is you seem to be acknowledging the possiblitiy of either position being correct, yet infer a superior intellectual position regarding your "plausibility" scenario.

Looks to me like our thought processes are closely aligned. We simply come to different conclusions. That's what is great about a democracy. The ability to disagree.

Unfortunately, very few people here appear capable of disagreeing agreeably. Each time I visit (providing an alternative point of view) I am attacked in a very condescending rude way. Have you noticed how each time I visit the attacks come at me personally, while I try and stick to the substance of the Elian case?

When I've seen that happen around SI while lurking, that usually means the person is making good points which challenge the assumptions of the majority, and they're unable to find a thoughtful way in which to dismiss the poster.

Happens a lot to shorts around the threads.

This administration has demonstrated an unusual ability to lie. Even a leading Democrat is quoted as saying, "Clinton is an unusually good liar". My questions is, why do you believe in their account of events so fully? All you really have is our government (meaning Clinton's team) and the Cuban government (meaning the Castro boys) account of events.

Either way, it doesn't really matter at this point. The boy is back in Cuba, undoubtedly being indoctrinated into a good communist soldier of the state. His father has now lost all rights to raise him as he see's fit. For all practical purposes, Elians father is now Fidel Castro and his brother.

The supporters of our governments actions may be rejoicing here. But I can't help but wonder if Juan or Elian truly are.
