Paul, >By the way, where is AMD's SMP server chip set ?
It's been delayed for a year - why aren't you AMDroids up in a tither over this delay and LOST MARKET OPPORTUNITY ?
And that server market growth is accelerating. It might be completely supplied by the time AMD gets there! No, that's not right, it'll still be growing, whenever that is. Here's another, kind of secondary indicator of that server growth, and that is the growth of RAID storage for Intel based servers. Information supplied on the Dell thread by rudedog, who is also a key contributor here.

Drew and all - some recent good news for DELL on the storage front. In a report focused on the sales of RAID-based storage in the Intel-based server market, Gartner identified this as a big and growing business. While CPQ has far and away the biggest piece of the pie, at 51% of the market, DELL, at 15%, is now #2, and is growing that business at nearly 70%, twice CPQ's 35% growth. They must be doing something right... IBM and HP are about half of DELL's share and growing much more slowly. This market is a derivative indicator of volume server sales since most of this storage is sold attached to servers. Sorry I can't publish the article but I have not seen any public version. Perhaps DELL will tout this sometime soon.
My conclusion kind of like saying sale of eggs must be good if sale of bacon is good. Oh, looking back on rudedog's report, that is spelled out here: This market is a derivative indicator of volume server sales since most of this storage is sold attached to servers.
I might add that the relatively new and growing SAN market might give both storage and servers of the class we're talking about an additional boost. I also saw the other day that IBM is releasing some new storage products under the Netfinity name, more proof of the strength of the market for storage on industry standard server products, and the Netfinity name.
