More on (moron?) the public's attitudes. This is from boortz.com.

The First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University does an annual poll and reports the results as the "State of the First Amendment."

The results:

Although most Americans said levels of free speech "are about right," 67 percent said that public remarks offensive to racial groups should not be allowed. (Hmm...guess that means trouble for Calvin "Go to hell, white man!" Butts.)

36 percent said they would support a law that banned such speech.

53 percent believe speech offensive to religious groups should be prohibited.

31 percent said a group should not be permitted to hold a rally for a cause if it offends others in the community.

68 percent of respondents favor restrictions on campaign contributions from private corporations and unions, and 57 percent advocate limits on contributions from individuals.

51 percent feel the press has too much freedom to do what it wants.

20 percent think the government should be allowed to approve what newspapers publish
One out of five respondents said that freedom to worship "was never meant
to apply to religious groups that the majority of people consider extreme or fringe."

37 percent of those polled couldn't name even one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.
