Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

Most people aren't in control of their insurance. They get what is given to them through work. They aren't in the position to demand much of anything, except (of course) if they are paying for it themselves.

I believe that lasers will indeed SOMEDAY be the standard of care. I dont know if the technolgy has arrived there yet or not, I doubt it. Also, the costs will need to come down.

As with all technological advances, the are expensive when they first come out and then decrease in cost as competition and refinement of the technology enter the marketplace.

So in the long run, I agree with you.

It is hard to say what will really happen though. Especially if the Federal Govt ends up in control. Americans are really spoiled. They dont know what is good or bad dentistry. We are one of the few countries in the world that uses anesthetic for fillings. I used to live in Germany and they didn't use anesthetic. You went where the Govt told you and you did what the dentist said (ie held still while he drilled ) or you were out the door.

I could never do that to people. But, we take alot of things for granted in this country that are luxuries everywhere else in the world.

I hope anesthesia never becomes "optional" because the govt or some insurance comapny decides so.
