4th of July
Tomorrow we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the most stirring statement of freedom ever written, IMO.
Tom Paine wrote the first draft of that document, contrary to what you read in your history books, boys and girls. He was a friend of Jefferson, and disliked by the delegates at the convention, so he let Jefferson take credit for it. Read Tom Paine, read Jefferson, and read the first draft of the Declaration of Independence, and the thought print is obvious.
28 years ago, I was lucky enough to take a course called: "Tom Paine, The American Revolution, and your Freedom", that laid this out to me. The significance of The Declaration of Independence, coupled with Paine’s publication of “Common Sense” on January 10th, 1776, cannot be overestimated. These two documents sparked a world wide revolution for freedom that is still going on.
BTW, If you hear of a roof collapsing in Los Angeles this evening, it will probably be mine. The number of people that may show up tonight is getting scary. It looks like the whole swing dance community in LA is going to turn out. I will post pictures on my photo site tomorrow.
Happy 4th, everyone!
