Actually that would be an inaccurate headline - it was in fact an anti-PRI vote, as such anti-feudal, anti-conservative in the old sense of the word 'conservative', and a very liberal vote in the old sense of the word 'liberal'.

I don't know how well aware of this people are, but those words have had their meaning changed over the years - 'liberal' used to stand for democracy and free enterprise, only in the last few decades has it come to stand for something like socialism in the fiscal aspects. The founding editor of The Economist described himself as a liberal, for instance ... if he was starting it today he would need a new word.

You'll find a number like myself in México today - fiscal conservatives, free enterprisers, but with a healthy fear of the whacko religio-socio-'conservatives' ... we call what we believe in 'Freedom', btw ... funny how that goes, eh ... cheers
