The Declaration of Independence really was important, imho - it was more than a milestone, it was inspiration for the french and the mexicanos who were fired by it enough to throw off their own chains du jour ... it inspired Marx, Engels, and Ho Chi Minh as well, among others ... it is universal, a thing of pride for our species and a worthy target for our goals.

Its framers were as anglosajon as those against whom they framed it, and were thinking in a tradition that runs back through Boadicea and forward through Winston Churchill ... while at the time a separatist manifesto, it is much more than that, and to those who use it in its true spirit of enlightenment without the snotty arrogance of superiority i wish a very happy and healthy Fourth of July .. ¡felicidades, América!
