Jay, I guess I am having a little bit of a hard time swallowing internet telephony. I have trouble with real-audio due to bandwidth limitations. The voice quality is not that good, and there are frequent gaps due to internet bottlenecks. This is not usually caused by BW from SP to PC. It is caused by the switching points. In other words, I get nearly identical performance at home with 28K modem as I do at work with 1.44M T1.

Using real audio as a baseline, I do not think that a reliable real-time 2-way conversation would be possible on the internet at this time. HJowever, a company with a dedicated WAN will be able to save a tremendous amount of money using the WAN bandwidth for Intranet telephony. For now, internet telephony will be mostly a hobbyist attraction (of course it wasn't that long ago that PC's had the same status :)

This link discusses some of the bandwidt issues.
