____________________________________________________________ Gateway Computers With Thunderbird Chip May Have Bug, Cnet Says
San Diego, July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Gateway Inc. suspended shipments of computers with the new 1-GHz Athlon ``Thunderbird'' chip, made by Advanced Micro Devices Inc., because of a bug, Cnet News.com reported, citing an unidentified Gateway spokesman. The problem was found through internal tests last week and so far hasn't been reported by a customer, and probably is caused by the system or other components, not the chip itself. Gateway is selling the same kind of computer with a regular 1-GHz Athlon chip and urging customers who bought computers with the Thunderbird chip to contact Gateway's technical support staff, Cnet said.
Advanced Micro Devices is the best-performing stock in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index this year.
