"Speaking of gender--The KJV uses the Latin "maleficos", which is gender-neutral
(to do evil); when Martin Luther did his translation, he changed this to
'Zauberinnen' which is the specifically feminine form of the English word 'witch'

You have it out of order and generally screwed up. The KJV uses the word "witch" in Lev. 20:18. Luther was already dead when the King James Version was published.

The Bible you are looking for is the Vulgate, where "Maleficos non patieras vivere" = thou shalt not suffer a maleficos to live." But Jerome apparently translated this from the Greek -- (Septuagint), where malefico = pharmakous (poisoner, pharmaceutical chemist) so in Catholic tradition, Ex. 22:18 does not authorize killing witches but only of druggists.
Now to wrap things up very tight, Jehovah orders Moses to have Aaron "cast lots" over two goats in Lev. 16:8. I have not had time to check, but if the word Moses uses in Lev. 16:8 is "kashaph" then Aaron was a witch (a lot caster) and should have been killed by Moses if Moses used the word "kashaph" in Ex. 22:18 to mean a lot caster. Of course, I understand that the Bible is inerrant or incoherent. But the Septuagint and the Hebrew (TaNaKH) versions may have mixed up witches, pick-up-stix players, and druggists all in one.
It really isn't funny. The remarkable thing is that grown people will waste so much time arguing over things like this that are of no sustantive importance at all.
All I would like to do is to expose another biblical hoax which has caused thousands of innocent people to be wrongfully executed by ignorant priests, most of whom had never read the Bible and few of whom could take it in the critical light in which all texts must be considered. ..
