I have to agree with you here. Actually, Christ particularly in Matthew can be possessed sometimes of a certain sardonic wit (as with the mote and the log in the eye, etc.), and one must be careful at times not to take him completely literally unless it is clearly intended. I rather doubt he was accusing Peter of being in the clutches of Satan simply because Peter expressed his concern, he was merely exaggerating to get his point across to Peter and his audience. In Matthew especially, he often speaks in hyperbole to get his message through to his sometimes seemingly dull-witted disciples.
