Oh, i'm sure you're right, it's just that we call what is in that picture mango manila ... although it is a little smaller and more yellow, and our manila does have some fibre, yes ... what do we know .. we don't even know who planted the trees roughly twenty years ago ... i plan to learn more as by December we will have a new potrero which will be an eventual house site, i have plans for an arboretum [sp?] of sorts, an informal research/propagation plot of two hectares ... a cousin is an agricultural inspector who is interested in interplanting the over-cleared pastures of the area with various trees to improve the grazing in dry times, and mango is certainly worth research, along with a few timber species.

In the south the mango seller on the street drives a sharp clean stick into the seed, then peels the fruit and slices it down to the seed so that it appears as an open flower, then wets it with lime and dusts it with chile powder - messy but delicious ... it is harder to do than it appears - a friend once asked me to fill in for him, he said he would be back in an hour but of course wasn't back in four hours ... people laughed but also offered hints and bought all the mangos ... it ain't the steak, it's the sizzle -g-
