Text of report in English by Russian news agency Interfax
Moscow, 4th July: Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel on Tuesday instructed its commissioner, state company Almazyuvelireksport, to satisfy orders from Japanese platinum and palladium consumers for 2000 and conclude trade contracts with these, first deputy director general at Norilsk Nickel, Dmitriy Zelenin, told Interfax.

The details of the contracts were not disclosed.

Russian platinum and palladium enters the world market from three sources: Gokhran, the Central Bank of Russia and Norilsk Nickel.

Russia supplies over 70 per cent of the world's palladium, 20 per cent of the platinum and a considerable amount of rhodium. Japanese companies are the world's largest platinum and palladium consumers.

Data on Russia's platinoid reserve and export volumes are not given as they are state secrets.
