[World DRAM Price] 128Mb DRAM Spot Prices Rise Above Contract Prices July 5, 2000 (TOKYO) -- Spot prices of 128Mb DRAM microchips are rapidly rising because of the DRAM supply shortage, and the spot prices in all three major markets have exceeded the prices for large-volume users.
If the DRAM microchip price continues to rise, 64Mb DRAM-embedded PCs will likely be the main product for winter sales, rather than those with 128Mb microchips.
According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMS (PC133, 16M x 8) for large-volume users between May 18 and June 16 registered US$13.39 in North America, US$13.27 in Europe and US$11.43 in Asia.
ICIS-LOR is based in London, Houston and Singapore.
As compared with the previous week (30-day rolling average through June 9), the prices fell 1.11 percent in North America, increased 1.35 percent in Europe and rose 0.52 percent in Asia. As for the spot prices of memory modules, 128Mb dual inline memory modules (DIMM, PC133) increased 5.33 percent from the previous week to US$112.45 in North America, they rose 7.13 percent to US$113.38 in Europe and were up 5.93 percent to US$105.19 in Asia.
