Eric L: In reading Geof Moore's "Living on the Fault Line", there appear to be some lessons for Qualcomm.

Specifically, he suggests that the stock price is the key indicator of shareholder value.

This makes Dr J's statement that he manages a company, not a stock, look too narrow.

Geo Moore's concepts are fascinating as an entirely new focus on core and context, outsourcing context, the central role of IT and stock price as the key indicator of shareholder value.

A discussion of the content of the book would seem appropriate here.

If not, then a new thread is needed for it, since there are major lessons in it. And it would seem well worth turning the collective ideas of G&Kers onto it.

Your comment about Qualcomm needing PR in addition to IPR is directly consistent with the book, for example - although the book is focused on how to manage a company in the internet age, if the stock price and stock options point is to be taken seriously, that has been a Qualcomm weakness.

Perhaps the discussion of the book could be not only of the general concepts, but given the widespread investment in Qualcomm by G&Kers, a practical application of those concepts using Qualcomm as a test case.

This might be an interesting weekend subject - if SI ever gets its act back together so an interchange is practical.

Best.
