Over the weekend, Samsung made this announcement:

saying:
>>>CDMA2000 technology service ready for launch in 2001
According to Samsung Electronics yesterday, a leading Korean telecom manufacturer, it would be possible to send data at 15Mbps using the recently developed cdma2000 1x EV technology. The company predicts that the service could be launched in the latter half of next year.
At 1.25MHz channel, cdma2000 1x EV will support data transmission at 5.2 Mbps and at 5MHz, the speed could be boosted up to 15Mbps, the company claimed.<<<
I don't know about anyone around here, but are these guys on crack or is their prediction for real? Q's own statements have said that HDR is has a possible rate of 2.4 Mbps at peak with 7 Mbps average per call. But Samsung is saying it can be boosted up to 15?????
On the earnings front:
I put this out on the Rocket thread and thought I'd post here as well. I've spent the better part of the free time I had this past weekend to crunch some numbers. A little review might be important here:
Back on Jan. 16 TRJ on the Rocket thread posted and excellent analysis of Q's future earnings potential. He came up with: Q1 = .28...actual .25 Q2 = .50...actual .26 Q3 = .56...est. .27 Q4 = .63...est. 28 2000 earnings = $1.97
I think it safe to say that his assumptions were way off. We are currently looking at $1.07 estimates for the year. With a 65% growth from last year and a PEG of 1, that would put us at $69 a share...about where we are. If we go out to 2001 earnings estimates, we have a estimated 30% growth rate to $1.63 a share...giving Q a premium PE of 50, that would put us around $100 a share based on 2001 earnings.
On the Buy Range thread, Michael came up with a .37 cent estimate for this coming 3rd quarter...

I know there are a lot of projects promised in the future and that CDMA is the superior technology...but at the moment, the market sure doesn't think so.
With Korea acting up, I fear to think what would happen if we have to deal with some kind of negative earnings news again.
Not suggesting any such thing, and for the record I am more than 80% QCOM, but it appears as if our estimates for this year have been a bit on the optimistic side to say the least. With HDR and the roll out of G3 not until next year, the possibility of some radical change in 2000 doesn't seem promising.
