SALOMON SMITH BARNEY DOWNGRADES SEMICONDUCTOR SECTOR TO NEUTRAL
FROM OUTPERFORM

NEW YORK, July 5 (Reuters) - Salomon Smith Barney analyst Jonathan Joseph cut his rating on the
semiconductor industry to neutral from outperform on Wednesday.

-- cut Texas Instruments Inc. <TXN.N> to outperform from buy.

-- cut Advanced Micro Devices Inc. <AMD.N> to outperform from buy.

-- cut Silicon Storage Technology Inc. <SSTI.O> to hold from buy.

-- cut National Semiconductor Corp. <NSM.N> to outperform from buy.

-- "Though a slowdown in the group may take six-nine months, we see 'first mover' evidence of a trend reversal in
decelerating industry unit shipments ..."

-- The reversal is "coupled with price declines and contracting lead times in commodity memories and passives
segments that were most severely impacted in the shortage."

-- Adds that sector likely to see peak capital spending growth rates this year.

-- Texas Instruments off 3-1/2 to 65-1/2.

-- Advanced Micro down 7-9/16 at 76-1/2.

-- Silicon Storage off 10-1/4 at 88-3/4.

-- National Semiconductor off 6-5/16 at 51-13/16.
