"So the implication is that a "greenfield investment" (read China for example) need not be put off since the path is clear and relatively simple to either 3rd gen "flavor" CDMA2000 3X or WCDMA (DS)."

I feel very good about China.

Gearing up local manufacturers now makes sense, and will reinforce China's move away from European vendors. This is China's best path. They are anxious to lessen Eurpoe's presence, and get a better cut of the action.

I don't see Korea's and Japan's pull to Europe's markets being shared by China. China may well have better motives now for favoring U.S. technology.
