There is a thing called specific performance. It is basically a remedy where you force somebody to perform their contract with you (as opposed to letting them off the hook for mere payment of money damages). It's hard to get a court to order specific performance (it has to be basically the only remedy that will work in a given situation). You see it most often in the context of real estate (which is by definition unique) and enforcement of confidentiality provisions and nondisclosure agreements.

I didn't realize that they would not let you change your login name. If they are going to broadcast it to the world, seems only fair they would let you change it. Of course you could re-register using a different login name (I did that after leaving SI in Jan 1999 and returning in Dec 1999. They would not let me have my old login name back but they did let me have my old alias back.) I wonder if SI would be willing to give you a free opportunity to register using a different login name. Of course, that may not protect you from recurrences because your old posts would be under the original login name. Not a good situation.

If it's any consolation, I was offline both nights they outed the login names so at least I still don't know who everybody is <weak grin>

I won't be trying to stir you into action out of respect for others on the thread who feel differently. Maybe mph will take your case<g>......
