The CDMA2000 does have a DS version. But the chip rate is 3.68. WCDMA is using 3.84. However I think the real difference is between synchronous and asynchronous. In CDMA2000, base stations are synchronized so that they are using the PN code with different offset. In WCDMA different base station using different PN code, therefore don't need time synchronization between different base stations. However because of this, the system aquiring and handoff will be more complex. And so far I don't know anyone have given a demo to show that it can really work well.
