Scott,
First no offence taken. I am very interested in new ideas and new stocks. Yes, I make relatively few changes in the portfolio. The reason is a combination of style and necessity. With regard to the first, my style is buy and hold. I don't like to pay taxes in my personal account and I model the potfolio after my personal account with a few changes to make the model less complicated. If you look back at the models returns we have been quite tax efficient. In addition, I have decided to keep the margin to a minimum given the current volatility in the market and thus to buy something I have to sell something else. Also the model has no ability to attract new capital. I like the stocks in the portfolio. If I had additional capital there are a few names I might add.
On the necessity side I have a day job (and many times nights as well) that is quite demanding. I also travel a lot on business so active trading is just not possible. I must also confess that with family responsibilities I simply do not spend as much time on new names as I would like to. Maybe someday I when retire and managing a biotech potfolio becomes a full time hobby. That is not likely to happen anytime soon.
