hi DS,

still thinking about your big monkey screensaver quandary...

check out this reader's question in a 'computer q&a' column in the sf chronicle on 6/29 ...

"SCREEN SAVER STOPPABLE

Q: Sir, the last few days I noticed a black ball on a
string going across my screen and bursting into ink
spots. It swings like a pendulum on a grandfather
clock, stops and explodes all over the window.
How can I stop this?

A: Congratulations. You get the prize for the
strangest question so far this millennium. But I
suspect there's a simple explanation. Somehow --
perhaps by installing a new program -- you seem to
have activated a screen saver. To disable it,
right-click on any empty area of your desktop and
choose Properties. In the Display Properties dialog
box that pops up, tab over to Screen Saver and
choose the (None) option from the drop-down
Screen Saver list."

<g3> sound vaguely familiar??

let us know what happens

:)
