Doesn't sound good to me, Milt. If Maxtor is changing to MR before the end of the year, it seems unlikely that they will apply the keepering process to their inductive drives -- an apparently obsolete technology. Maybe someone should call Maxtor and ask them! Looks like Ampex won't be getting $$ from Maxtor or anyone else until they develop keepering for use with MR heads. Although they say that it seems to work with MR heads in the laboratory, they also say, at page 14 of the 10Q, that "...testing under laboratory conditions may not be representative of performance in a production disk drive and there is a significant possibility that further testing, or technical or economic factors may make the incorporation of keepered media into MR-based drives impractical." Question is, did their lawyers make them write that or is it really uncertain whether they will be able to make it work? And how long will it take them? Good questions for Mr. Bramson at the annual meeting.
