John C. Burney, Chairman
In 1974, upon retiring from the US Army as Brigadier General, John C. "Jack" Burney founded The Burney Company, parent organization to John C. Burney & Company, an investment management firm.
Mr. Burney has been featured in countless investment newspapers and periodicals including The Wall Street Journal, Money, and USA Today, to name but a few. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy, the National War College and received a graduate degree from George Washington University.
Theodore R. Rosenberg, President
Mr. Rosenberg, an MBA graduate from the Wharton School of Business, joined The Burney Company in 1979 and has nearly 20 years experience as a Portfolio Manager. He has been repeatedly invited to participate in Forbes magazine's Streetwalker series, and has appeared several times on Nightly Business Report as a guest market commentator.
As a result of his success in the investment management field, Mr. Rosenberg, in 1995, was inducted into the University of Connecticut Business School Hall of Fame, and named 1995 Man of the Year by the Washington Chapter of the Wharton School of Business.
Lowell D. Pratt, Jr., CFA, Director of Analysis
Mr. Pratt joined The Burney Company in 1986 as an Assistant Portfolio Manager. Today, Mr. Pratt, a Chartered Financial Analyst, is a Portfolio Manager and Director of Analysis. As Director of Analysis, he is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Burney's analytical system.
Mr. Pratt holds B.S. degrees in Finance and Economics from Virginia Tech, and continues his education through graduate work in Economics and Statistics at George Mason University.
Steven L. Armentrout, Ph.D., Director of Research & Portfolio Manager
Dr. Armentrout began working for The Burney Company in 1993 as a Research Scientist, and now serves as Portfolio Manager and Director of Research, overseeing the research and development of Burney's analytical models. Considered an authority on the application of quantitative models in the financial markets, he is widely published, and a frequent lecturer to investment professionals both on Wall Street and abroad.
Dr. Armentrout formerly held a Research Faculty position at University of Maryland, College Park where he earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science.
Peter A. Wentz, Analytical Consultant
Mr. Wentz has been with The Burney Company in a variety of operational and analytical capacities since 1986. Most significantly, he served as Director of Analysis from 1989 to 1996. He elected, in 1996, to become an Analytical Consultant so that he might devote more time to research versus operational responsibilities. In this capacity he assists with the development of statistical models and proprietary analytical products.
Mr. Wentz holds a BFA from Ohio University, and pursued graduate studies in the field of computer science at George Mason University.
Paula L. Gawthorp, MBA, Director of Investment Education
Ms. Gawthorp joined the Burney investment team in 1996 as Director of Investment Education. An expert on the subject of investment strategies, Ms. Gawthorp develops and delivers educational investment programs on the subject of retirement planning and stock selection.
Ms. Gawthorp holds an MBA from West Virginia Wesleyan, and an undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University.
