I think Fox is going to have to "bend over" a little more than he will want to. I would compare it to Gorbachev's early days. After decades of a one-party dictatorship it won't be easy to clean up the corruption which exists at all levels of society. Those families who have benefited over the generations from both government and corporate control aren't going to give up their influence easily.

IMO there's a chance FOX may not survive his six years in power as some desperate element from the "old days" tries to hang on. The PRI is in bed with the drug cartels and with that kind of money involved anything can happen. That would be a huge mistake IMO as Fox would go down in history as a martyr and the Mexican people would hit the streets in rage. Colosio was assassinated for not playing ball but the PRI dictatorship was able to prevent the information from getting out (wouldn't want to incriminate themselves anyway).

Label me a realist after living there for ten years, change is in progress but it'll be 20-30 years before the mentality of the people begins to match the words of the leadership. There's a tremendous amount of work to be done in restructuring the system and nobody trusts leadership with or without Fox.
