Pat, RHK estimates that the total global DWDM market will be $43BB by 2003, up from $9BB in 1999 (source DBAB May 2000 Optical Networking). Approximately half of that market is in submarine systems which are projected to grow faster than land based installations.

If Alcatel were to capture 43% of that market, then they would have approximately 26% of the global DWDM market. I do not believe that Alcatel has anything near that figure. It is therefore most likely that Alcatel includes legacy SONET installations in its market share figures.
