If he was back in Cuba, he would have had no freedom of choice... it would be almost impossible for JM to flee Cuba after being declared a national hero.

Well, of course he can't leave now. He had his window of opportunity--months of it with nothing much to do but contemplate his navel and make plans for the future. The opportunity is gone now. I hope he's happy with his decision.

You could adopt me! I am a cute, cuddly 50ish, easy going guy,

Had I wanted offspring, I would have produced some. Retreads need not apply. <g>

who is not opinionated.

I'll bet you were a real terror at age 9. How could anyone question the choice to not have children? <g>

As bad as I think that it is? The evidence is in the thousands of dead Cuban men, women and children, floating in the strait between Cuba and Miami.

You may not have made the same choice. Those floaters surely wouldn't have. I probably wouldn't have either. But it was JM's choice, not anyone else's. He was in a position to weigh his quality of life and that of his family, the risks to his relatives in Cuba, the opportunities here or in some other free country, etc. He made his choice. It doesn't matter what you or I think about it. What is it about freedom that is so difficult to grasp?
