We interrupt this QCOM thread to discuss the off-topic subject of TDMA...ATT is now promoting packet data (CDPD), calling it Digital PocketNet. Basic service (all-you-can eat Phone.com stuff) is FREE with an enabled phone. Add email for $6.99 a month. I just traded in my old NOK 6160 for a new Ericsson R280Lx (doesn't that just roll off the tongue!). This phone is a 6160 lookalike, with advanced features like predictive text input. Internet, email, and organizer. Cost? A whopping 99 bucks! It is a nice little phone, and compared to it, NOK's offerings are absurdly overpriced and out of date. According to the sales rep, NOK is not going to support CDPD for ATT. This sounds like a big mistake. I think AWE will make this service an i-mode copycat (you can shop, trade stocks, etc.--today). NOK's 7000 series phones which will come out next month or so will support SMS--even though AWE doesn't support it yet (apparently). I just cannot understand why NOK is skipping this great packet data opportunity. DoCoMo has shown that slow packet data can be a big hit, and it is here right now. What's UP????
Also, this will totally kill Sprint's lame circuit-switched service (39 cents a minute vs. FREE!!!)
